St.Joseph's Health Centre provides an 8-bed inpatient program, taking care of children from infancy to their 18th birthday. Children are admitted to the inpatient unit through the hospital Emergency Department, the Just for Kids Clinic, from The Hospital for Sick Children by patient transfer, and from paediatrican offices in the community. Paediatrics is proud to offer an environment that is child and family friendly.

Parents of children of all ages are strongly encouraged to stay with their child to ensure their comfort and decrease their anxiety. Generally our rooms come equipped with a fold out bed for 1 parent to stay, but we do try very hard to accommodate unusual situations where a sibling also may need to stay.

The staff on the unit, including a full time Child Life Specialist, work hard to ensure procedures and treatments are provided in ways that focus on developmentally-appropriate pain management strategies and are inclusive of families and their physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.

The program also has a 6-bed Surgical Day Care (SDC) Program and a Pre-Admission for Surgery Program. The SDC program provides elective surgeries to children from 1 yr of age up to their 18th birthday.
