Going Home

When your doctor feels that you are ready to go home, he or she will write an order for your discharge.

The general discharge time is 9:00 a.m. for surgical patients; the Medicine units usually discharge at 11:00 a.m.

If your doctor has determined that you should stay past your discharge date while arrangements are made for a different type of care, (chronic care, a nursing home, extended care, or a home for the aged) you will be required to co-pay the cost of your room and meals. This does not apply to patients awaiting rehabilitation, palliative care or home care.

Before leaving the Health Centre, please visit our Patient Accounts office, in the East Wing, first floor, to settle your account. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, debit card, VISA, American Express or MasterCard.

If family or loved ones will be picking you up, make sure you let them know your discharge time. The Tranquility Entrance on the Ground Floor of the Morrow Wing is the most convenient place to wait for them. If you need to arrange for a taxi, “taxi phones” are located at the main, Tranquility and Emergency entrances.

Extra Care at Home

At home, you may need extra care. If so, please let your nurse know as soon as possible. We'll be happy to assist you with this. Please ask about our Lifeline Program, which offers an emergency response service at home. For information, please call 416-530-6453.
