St. Joseph's Health Centre is committed to excellence in education. It is our vision to be the best community teaching hospital in Canada, and supporting student education for a wide range of professions plays a prominent role in this vision. It is also one of our key strategic priorities to partner in educating the next generation of health professionals. We are pleased to be able to offer a wide variety of placements, in a range of clinical areas and specialties. We endeavor to make our students' time at St. Joseph's an outstanding learning opportunity.
The Placement Experience
Health professions students complete an orientation by viewing a variety of materials on our intranet which cover site specific areas of practice and policy that apply across many professions. In addition, discipline or area specific orientation materials are covered with a Professional Practice Leader, Manager/Supervisor or other Leader in the area/profession.
While on site, many students also have the opportunity to complete supplementary observation sessions. These may include observing members of the team who work in different professions, observing in a different unit/area of practice, or observing a specific procedure/surgery that is relevant to their learning goals. A number of ongoing education sessions that we run for employees are open to students. Our students also enjoy access to our library, our Chapel, our Multi-Faith room and to our Wellness Centre (gym) at the staff rate.
