New Employee Orientation

St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides an orientation which consists of 3 phases.

A one day new employee orientation is run for all newly hired employees.

All newly hired clinical staff members then proceed to a one day interprofessional orientation. This day is a uniquely designed, interactive forum for clinicians to learn with, from and about each other. The following quote is from one of our attendees illustrates the collaborative spirit of the day.

“Some things I’ve learned from Interprofessional Education:

  • Reinforcing the differences within working professionals; clarifying roles
  • Communication, communication, communication
  • Becoming familiar with hospital disciplines and resources, e.g. Addictions consults, Interpreter Services, SJNet, etc.
  • Case Scenarios: brings different schools of thought together and perspectives; prepares us to make less mistakes and equips us to live out St. Joseph’s mission/values day-to-day

All newly hired nurses then proceed to a two day nursing orientation, which is followed by program or unit specific orientation.
