St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides a wide range of ongoing education activities and events for employees/physicians. There are a large number of rounds, inservice education sessions and training programs that run on site. Some examples of regularly schedules events include:

Interprofessional Education Week

This week recognizes the interprofessional learning and collaboration at St. Joseph's and highlights our Vision to be Canada's Best Community Teaching Hospital. The fair provides an opportunity for the Health Centre's nurses, doctors, staff and students to share and sharpen their skills in a hands-on way while showcasing the groundbreaking interprofessional work being done at St. Joe's. Clinical Day

Each year, the Department of Medical Education & Scholarship (DMES) at St. Joseph's Health Centre hosts a day speakers, clinical rounds presentations and hands-on clinical skills workshops for our local Health Care Community. Please SAVE THE DATE for our 58th Annual Clinical Day on Friday November 1, 2013.

The Preceptorship/Mentorship Workshop

This quarterly workshop is a faculty development opportunity for employees who will be working with students and/or new team members. It is interactive and experiential - addressing key information about: the preceptor/mentor experience, learning styles/principles/theories, communication & conflict management, fair evaluation and learning plans.

Leadership Development

SJHC offers leadership training for both employees and physicians. Participants experience: leadership models, collaborative learning, 360 feedback & coaching and the opportunity to complete an experiential learning leadership project.

The Departments of Interprofessional Education & Collaboration and Medical Education & Scholarship are pleased to introduce the second annual Academic Achievement Day on Friday, June 14, 2013 in Education Centres A&B.

The day will provide an opportunity for the Health Centre's employees, physicians, and students to celebrate academic scholarship and will include the following:

8:00 am to 9:00 am

  • Award Ceremony Recognizing Clinical Teachers at SJHC
  • DMES Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award Presentation
  • Interprofessional Education Teaching Award Presentation

12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

  • Presentation of the Top Two Academic Abstracts
  • Best Academic Abstract Award
  • Poster Fair

We are pleased to announce that nominations and abstract submissions for Academic Achievement Day are now open.

The deadline date for the award nominations and abstract submissions is Friday, May 17, 2013. Late nominations will not be accepted.
