Using Our Resources Wisely
Being transparent, innovative and accountable stewards of the resources entrusted to us is what binds together our Mission, Vision and Values and forms the foundation on in which we provide our health care services.
We have a responsibility to operate within a balanced budget and every year we demonstrate our commitment by signing an accountability agreement with the Toronto Central LHIN.
For the past three years the St. Joe's has also publicly reported our scorecard, showing the community how we are performing and monitoring the improvements in our programs. Last fall, the Ministry launched its own province-wide public reporting requirements for every hospital, which is posted on our website as well.
Providing Health Care Services into the Future
The final phase our redevelopment project, the new Our Lady of Mercy patient care wing gained momentum this year. The complex excavation was completed and the new underground parking garage which forms the platform for the new wing was opened in early April.
As we look forward to the completion of this final phase of our redevelopment, we celebrate the continuing legacy of the exceptional patient care services provided for 58 years by the dedicated staff of the former Our Lady of Mercy Building. The "new" OLM will provide the people living in Toronto's south west community with care close to home in a a state of the art 4 storey patient care wing that will house our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, our Paediatric Unit, and our Family Birthing Centre.
Introducing Josie Green
In April St. Joe's welcomed Josie "Jo" Green, the spokes-icon and face of our commitment to reducing the Health Centre's environmental footprint. Jo Green acts on behalf of our Environmental Management Committee to educate staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors about our environmental initiatives and to promote our green strategy.
Josie is responsible for spreading key messages: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle, Be Energy Efficient, and Reduce the Effects of Waste Generated by the Healthcare World. Jo comes to St. Joes with an extensive (albeit fictional) background as an environmental activist and most recently has been cleaning the air in Lima, working with parks and recreation to clean up our greenspace and tree planting.
Her greening healthcare activities kicked off with St. Joe's participation in Earth Hour and the City of Toronto's one-hour makeover this past Spring. Jo will help us to roll out long-term strategies that will reduce our environmental footprint.
