St. Joseph’s Health Centre is committed to making the best use of the resources entrusted to us while ensuring the highest level of care to our patients. As a socially responsible institution we consider ourselves accountable for the use of these public resources. Through efficient resource management, the Health Centre recorded an operating surplus in 2008/09 of $2.5 million, on operating revenues of $241.5 million.
In order to better serve and meet the needs and expectations of our patient population and plan for the future, the Health Centre continues to remain focused on several key initiatives such as:
- Investments in capital equipment and infrastructure to enhance our ability to deliver quality care using the latest medical advances, undertaking renovations and improvements to our current facility and increasing our capacity via space planning and new construction.
- Investments in communications and information technology as part of our e-health initiative to ensure that our clinicians have streamlined access to the information they need when they need it in order to better serve our patients.
The Health Centre continues to benchmark its financial performance to that of comparable hospitals and uses this peer-comparison data during its budgeting and planning cycle to ensure that we provide services to the community in a cost effective and efficient manner. Near the end of the fiscal year the Health Centre began the development of a new component of the Operating plan, the Program Management and Budgeting Analysis process. This new process will help the organization allocate its scare resources to the areas of patient care where there is greatest benefit in upcoming fiscal years.
Our ranking as a top tier health care centre and our continued performance financially as well as in service quality and patient satisfaction is due to the untiring efforts of our staff, physicians and volunteers assisted by the dedicated work of the St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation and its generous and committed donors.
