Join the Board Of Directors Today! The Board of Directors of St. Joseph's Health Centre invites all interested parties to apply for this voluntary position by April 1st, 2010. More Information |
The Volunteer Services Department is responsible for providing human resource functions related to the placement of volunteers. Volunteer Services also provides consultation services to departments interested in developing new volunteer programs or roles.
Approximately 250 members of our community donate their time to the Health Centre on a regular basis. They are 80% women, 20% men and collectively speak over 20 different languages. Some are employed, some are retired and some are students interested in a health care career. Most of the volunteers at SJHC live within the catchment area.
Most volunteers contribute one three-hour shift weekly. Annually, volunteers contribute approximately 22,500 hours of support to over 20 different areas of the Health Centre. The largest portion of our volunteers (24 %) support the Courtesy Program, followed by 19% supporting the Emergency Department.
Volunteer roles are designed to provide emotional support, non-medical information, way-finding, and problem solving for families and visitors. Volunteers offer a service and a support that does not duplicate roles provided by staff.
Volunteer With Us
Our volunteers are an important link to the local community and a vital and highly valued addition to the St. Joseph's Health Centre team. We believe that volunteering should be both beneficial and rewarding. All volunteer placements are designed to support the Mission and Values of the Health Centre and to enhance the care provided by staff. We are always looking for people who are understanding, supportive and who want to make a real difference for fellow community members and St. Joseph's.
Prospective volunteers are invited to attend an information session (held monthly) and to take part in a personal interview. Selected volunteers then attend an orientation session, provide information for screening, and complete the required immunization testing. Training and ongoing support is then provided for all volunteer placements.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and able to commit to one three hour shift weekly for a minimum of one year.
We actively encourage you to consider the rewards of volunteering. For further information, please contact Volunteer Resources at 416-530-6450, or at volunteers@stjoe.on.ca. To view current volunteer opportunities, please see below.
