December 2011

On Monday, December 5, St. Joseph’s Health Centre proudly celebrated 90 years of providing safe, quality health care to the residents of South West Toronto. The day began with the official blessing of the Our Lady of Mercy Patient Care Wing by His Grace, Archbishop of Toronto, Thomas Collins. Hundreds of staff, physicians, volunteers, and students joined members of the Board of Directors for the Health Centre and Foundation, along with our special guests, representatives from the Sisters of St. Joseph and the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing Alumni for this momentous occasion. To read more about this special event, please visit our website at www.stjoe.on.ca.

Weekly meetings are brining together members of each move team: Paediatrics, NICU, Family Birthing Centre, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Medicine and Surgery, along with Nutrition, Environmental Services, Laboratory Services, Pharmacy, Infection Prevention and Control, Clinical Engineering, Information Services, Plant Operations and Maintenance, Materials Management and Diagnostic Imaging. This allows open discussion across the board as we move into the tactical planning phase in preparation for the upcoming moves. We anticipate handover of the building to take place in early 2012 with moves taking place six weeks following.

The Redevelopment section of the website has now been reorganized to ensure ongoing communications with our patients and their families, our partners in the health care field and our community and neighbours as we work through our redevelopment phases. There are five sections: Latest Redevelopment News is where updates are posted monthly about progress of our current project; the Our Lady of Mercy tab provides details about the new Wing and will be the hub for future detailed information as we approach the move; take a glimpse into the construction site through the Photos section; providing a quick summary of previous construction at the Health Centre is the Past Projects page; and a Contact Us tab, as feedback is always appreciated.
