title

This week, St. Joseph's Health Centre celebrates our nurses and their contributions to patient care. The 930 nurses at the Health Centre will be recognized and celebrated with a host of activities throughout the week.

This year's theme, "Nursing, you can't live without it," speaks to the vital role nurses play in providing care. "Nursing is the life blood of Health Care," said Lynne Strathern, Professional Practice Leader. "Nurses assess, plan, treat, coordinate and manage patient care. They care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are available to our patients at times in their lives where they are most vulnerable."

Nursing week is an opportunity for the Health Centre to celebrate the contribution these dedicated caregivers make, as they play a key role in Putting Patients First. "Nurses provide care for patients with dignity and respect and are committed to achieving the best clinical outcomes," said Strathern. "Nursing encompasses a unique blend of critical thinking, leadership, caring and skill."

Not only do these deeply committed healthcare professional play an integral role in delivering patient care, they are also valued members of the interprofessional team here at St. Joe's. "Nurses share their knowledge, skills and expertise with other healthcare providers and work within the interprofessional team to facilitate access to the full continuum of care," said Strathern.

This week is the perfect opportunity to express our appreciation for the dedication and commitment our nurses bring to our patients and the Health Centre. Please go out of your way during this special week to acknowledge the fundamental contributions that nursing makes.
