Climate change and the use of limited resources are high on most people’s agendas these days. Whether due to high fuel prices, recycling initiatives, or awareness of the environmental changes world-wide, individuals are making an effort to reduce their ecological footprint.
At. St. Joseph’s, we are also working to make a change and green our healthcare. Our commitment to reduce the use of our resources and ultimately shrink our environmental footprint has become one of our strategic priorities.
In April 2009, our organization welcomed Josie “Jo” Green, the spokes-icon and face of our green commitment. “Jo” Green made her debut during the Health Centre’s annual celebration of Earth Week and was introduced as the persona for our Environmental Management Committee. Among her list of responsibilities, her priority is to educate staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors about our environmental initiatives and to promote our green strategy.
The Health Centre’s Environmental Management Committee continues to implement initiatives that further foster a culture of global responsibility corporately. It also monitors and reports on our performance of internal environmental targets that are measured against a set of standards to ensure we are meeting our goals.
